The distribution of this species probably represents several different taxa (see Hammer et al. 2007) as discussed introduction to genus.

Extra Distribution Information

Coastal drainages from Fitzroy River, southern QLD (23º25´S, 149º57'E) to the Murray River, SA (35º24'S, 138º58´E), and inland from the south-east of the main Murray/Darling/Culgoa/Condamine drainage towards the main eastern divide, and from the Darr River/Thompson River/Cooper Creek drainage flowing south-west to Lake Eyre; the species was introduced into southern TAS (42º40´S, 146º50´E) but did not establish; temperate.
