  Comment: The holotype is either NMV A 9853, or one of three specimens registered as NMV A 13529. Of the latter three specimens, one was illustrated for McCoy in 1867, and the illustration is annotated "Gal. pseudoscriba / McCoy" in McCoy's hand. The illustration is registered as NMV PZD 333.

Coastal flowing streams and rivers east and south of the Great Dividing Range from Brisbane, QLD (27º36'S) to Doggerup Creek, south of Bridgetown, WA (34º05'S, 116º05´E), also becoming widespread in southern catchments of the mid-upper Murray River due to translocations, and from Flinders Island and King Island, Bass Strait and widespread at low elevations in TAS (43ºS), also at Lord Howe Island; temperate, southern circumglobal (excluding South Africa).
