Pedder Galaxias
- Galaxias pedderensis Frankenberg, R.S. 1968. Two new species of galaxiid fishes from the Lake Pedder region of southern Tasmania. The Australian Zoologist 14(3): 268-274 pls 14-15 [268, pl. 14].
Type data:
Holotype TMH D.941, Lake Pedder, southern Tasmania, near the mouth of the inflowing stream from Lake Maria, and including the stream itself up to 100 yards from the mouth.
Paratype(s) NMV A379-387 (9), collected with Holotype; NMV A.10362 (27), collected with Holotype; NMV A.21670 (12, cleared and stained), collected with Holotype
Comment: Type locality flooded following impoundment of Lake Pedder.
Introduction
The Pedder Galaxias is Listed as Extinct in the wild (EPBC Act 1999). The species is now thought to only survive in two translocated populations that were established following the flooding of Lake Pedder: Lake Oberon in the Western Arthur Range and in the Strathgordon Dam, Tasmania.
