Gippsland Lakes, VIC (147°46'E) to Jurien Bay, WA (30°18'S), and TAS, possibly restricted to Australia and New Zealand, extralimital records possibly based on other species; some records of this species are misidentifications of Sphyraena waitii; temperate, Indo-west Pacific.
