Holotype QVM 993.5.9 (Holotype lost, formerly QVM HT.938), in cavity in root of eucalypt stump blown out of ground, West Ulverstone, TAS. - Saxilaga (Saxilaga) anguilliformis Scott, E.O.G. 1936. Observations on fishes of the family Galaxiidae. Papers and Proceedings of the Royal Society of Tasmania 1935: 85-112 figs 1-4 [106, fig. 4].

Holotype QVM 1971.5.26 (formerly QVM HT.951), Cox's Creek, Dead Horse Gully, tributary of Inglis River at Wynyard, northwestern Tasmania.
Paratype(s) BMNH 1966.5.6.2 (ex QVM), collected with Holotype. - Galaxias (Galaxias) upcheri Scott, E.O.G. 1942. Description of Tasmanian mud-trout Galaxias (Galaxias) upcheri sp. nov. with a note on the genus Brachygalaxias Eigenmann, 1924, and its occurrence in Australia. Northern, western and southern TAS and Flinders Island (Bass Strait), and more recently from low lying areas along southern VIC coast from Wilsons Promontory (146°26'E) to the Aire River, Otway Ranges (143°28'E), and coastal habitat between Beachport and Robe (ca. 37°11'S, 139°56'E), and Bool Lagoon (37°07'S, 140°42'E), SA; temperate.
