   Holotype BMNH 1937.10.4.20 (Depth probably about 200 fathoms [366 meters]. Formerly SAM specimen), West Coast off Table Bay, South Africa.

Off Port Stephens, NSW (32°11'S) to west of Bunbury, WA (33°14'S); temperate, disjunct (south-west Atlantic and south-west Indian Ocean in South Africa and south-west Pacific, Norfolk Ridge and New Zealand).
