Introduction

This species was widely known as Platycephalus longispinis Macleay, 1884 until recently when Imamura (2013) showed that it was synonymous with Platycephalus grandispinis Cuvier, 1829, the latter name taking priority as the earlier described species.

States

New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia


Extra Distribution Information

Off Fraser Island, QLD (24º48´S) to about Wilsons Promontory, VIC (39ºS, 146º30´E) and Investigator Strait, SA (137º22´E) to Shark Bay, WA (24º45'S); temperate.

Australian Endemic.
