Holotype USNM 98904, Albatross Station D.5174, Jolo Light, vicinity of Jolo, Philippines, 20 fathoms [6°03´45"N, 120°57´E].

Introduction
Until recently Parascorpaena moultoni was considered a junior synonym and some previous records are based on that species (Motomora et al. 2011).
