Species Parapercis hexophtalma (Cuvier, 1829)

Blacktail Sandsmelt, Speckled Sandperch

Introduction

We follow the work of Imamura and Yoshino (2007), who separated the species previously referred to as Parapercis hexophtalma into 3 geographically separated species: P. hexophtalma from the Indian Ocean, P. pacifica from the Western Pacific and south-eastern Indian Ocean and P. queenslandica from Queensland. Some authors have recognised a single widely distributed species, P. hexophtalma. Also note that many authors misspelled the species name as hexophthalma.
