Introduction
Fricke & Golani (2012) restrict Limnichthys nitidus to the western Indian Ocean, and use Limnichthys donaldsoni for the Pacific species. Other works have not separated the two forms (Nelson 1979, Yoshino et al. 1999. The species is difficult to separate from the sympatric L. fasciatus and some records of that species may belong to L fasciatus.
