Off North West Cape, WA (22ºS) to Timor Sea (129º43'E), Arafura Sea, NT, Coral Sea east of Cape York (11º44'S, 144º50'E) to north of Townsville, QLD (18º15'S, 147º41'E), and off Newcastle NSW (33°03'S, 152°32'E) to south of Point Hicks, VIC (38º27'S, 149º10'E), also southwest of Lord Howe Island, possibly continuous distribution down the east coast; tropical, temperate, circumglobal (except north-east Pacific).
