Superorder STENOPTERYGII
Introduction
The superorder Stenopterygii comprises two orders of deepsea fishes, both of which are represented in Australia (Nelson 1994). More recently, Nelson (2006) placed Ateleopodiformes into its own superorder based on a tentative conclusion by Olney et al. (1993), but we retain the group here as an order pending further work.
