Extra Distribution Information
Parin & Borodulina, 2002 regarded Astronesthes niger as a North Atlantic species, but Gomon et al 2008 included it in their Fishes of Australia's Southern Coast book. The distribution of this species needs further investigation.Although regarded as a North Atlantic species by Parin & Borodulina (2002), A. niger was included in the Astronesthes key by Kenaley et al. (2008). Further research is required to determine the distribution of this species. Previously Paxton et al. (2006) excluded the species from Australia.
