Syntype(s) QM I.1560, off Cape Gloucester, QLD; AM I.12541, off Cape Gloucester, QLD. - Penon filifer Whitley, G.P. 1941. Ichthyological notes and illustrations. The Australian Zoologist 10(1): 1-50 figs 1-32 pls 1-2 [33, fig. 22] [junior homonym of Upeneoides filifer Ogilby, 1910; Whitley named the species as new because he did not regard the paper of Ogilby as formally published; he copied Ogilby's description and added a figure, indicating the AM specimen as the holotype].
