Introduction
Kuiter (1993, 1996) treats L. papilio as having a south/west coast and an east coast form, referring to the east coast population as L. pleuracanthica. There is currently no taxonomic evidence to support this view so we retain L. pleuracanthica as a junior synonym of L. papilio (see also Richards, 1992 and Gomon & Last, 2008) until taxonomic work can be conducted to confirm that the east coast form is different.
