Introduction
Kuiter (2000) regarded some NSW records of this species as Solenostomus paegnius, however, Orr & Fritzsche (1993) and Orr et al. (2002) treat S. paegenius as a junior synonym of S. cyanopterus. We follow Kuiter (2009) and Allen & Erdmann (2012) in recognising S. paegenius as valid, but leave records from eastern Australia as S. cyanopterus until further work can be conducted to confirm their identity.
