Type species:
Sigmops stigmaticus Gill, 1883 (=Gonostoma elongatum Günther, 1878) by monotypy.
Introduction
We follow MIya and NIshida (2002) in recognising Sigmops as distinct from Gonostoma. Some workers do no recognise the genus (Harold 1998, Harold & Gomon 2008).
