Introduction

Previously, Scorpaena jacksoniensis was treated as a junior synonym of S. cardinalis by Allen et al. (2006). In a revision of the S. cardinalis group, Motomura et al. (2011) recognised S. jacksoniensis as a distinct species. They also determined that records from mainland Australia as Scorpaena cookii are misidentifications of S. jacksoniensis.
