Species Pseudoscopelus altipinnis Parr, 1933

Introduction

Melo (2010) separated P. paxtoni, known from the south-west Pacific from the widespread Pseudoscopelus altipinnis Parr, 1933. Prokofiev (2011) regarded the species as a junior synonym of P. altipinnis. Examination of eastern Australian material suggests that some material more closely resembles P. altipinnis and we tentatively follow Prokofiev (2011).
