Taxonomic Decision for Synonymy
- Sazonov, Y.I. 2001. Notophycis — a new fish genus of the family Moridae (Gadiformes) with description of a new species and two new subspecies and notes on the status of the genus Austrophycis. Voprosy Ikhtiologii 41(3): 293-303 [English translation in J. Ichthyol. 41(45): 343–353] [293]
Introduction
Austrophycis was in wide usage in Australia and New Zealand (Paulin 1983) until Sazonov (2001) synonymized the genus. Gomon et al (2021) reviewed the genus and recognised Australian records of P. bachus as a distinct species to which they applied the name Pseudophycis palmatus (Klunzinger, 1872),and excluding P. bachus from the Australian fauna.
