- Pseudochromis polyacanthus Bleeker, P. 1856. Zevende bijdrage tot de kennis der ichthyologische fauna van Ternate. Natuurkundig Tijdschrift voor Nederlandsch Indië 10: 357-386 [375] [although the genus is feminine, the species name is derived from the Greek, poly = many + akantha = thorn and latinized to acanthus indicating a masculine noun; Bleeker, 1875 listed the species as Pseudogramma polyacanthus, and the name polyacanthus is retained here rather than polyacanthum or polyacantha].
