Species Pompilus lunulatus (Saussure, 1867)

Generic Combinations

Introduction

Junco Y Reyes (1951) placed this species in Deuteragenia, Šustera, 1913 (now a subgenus of Dipogon Fox, 1897) along with other species placed in Pogonius, Dahlbom 1845. However, he may have been unaware of Schulz’s (1911) earlier placement in Pompilus and Saussure’s description which states that the abdomen is sessile. As Dipogon has not previously been recorded from Australia and Junco Y Reyes made a number of other errors relating to Australian material [Elliott 2007 retained] the species in Pompilus until its exact placement is determined.
