Holotype USNM 51598, Albatross station 4082, off northern coast of Maui Island, Hawaiian Islands, 220-238 fathoms.

Introduction
Matsunuma et al. (2022) regard Plectrogenium nanum as restricted to the Hawaiian Islands and suggest that Australian material identified as this species may represent one of the new species they described, or an undescribed species. We retain the species here as P. nanum until further work can be conducted to confirm its identity.
