Introduction

The family Plectrogenidae currently comprises two genera and 13 species (Mandrytsa 1992, Matsunuma et al. 2022). One species has been recorded from Australian waters. This group has been variably placed in other families: Sebastidae by some workers, as a separate subfamily of the Scorpaenidae by Nelson (2006) and at the family level following Imamura (1996, 2004)(see Matsunuma et al., 2022). Plectrogenids are benthic, found on the lower parts of the continental shelf and continental slope. Little is known about the group.
