   Holotype AM E.4628, East of Flinders Island, Bass Strait, Australia, depth 70-100 fathoms.

Introduction

Kawai & Yabe (2006) regarded this species as a junior synonym of Peristedion liorhynchus That species is a tropical species and tentatively we retain that name from material from Northwestern Australia to Cape York, although that species may be an undescribed species.

ENE of the Capricorn Group, QLD (22º10'S) to E of Flinders Is, TAS (39°57'S), and the Taupo Tablemount, Tasman Sea (33°10'S, 156°10'E), recorded from New Caledonia, but possibly based on a different species; temperate
