Introduction

This species may represent a new species, but the name is retained here until publication by other workers to resolve the name. Kawai & Yabe (2006) and Kawai (2013) treated the name as a senior synonym of Peristedion picturatum, which was described from Tasmania and apparently is a subtropical or temperate species.
