Species Parapercis somaliensis Schultz, 1968

Somali Grubfish

Introduction

The correct name for this species is uncertain. It was first recorded from Australia as Parapercis somaliensis by Allen et al. (2006). However, Randall (2008) indicated that that species is confined to the western Indian Ocean. He described two new species similar to that species from the region P. compressa, recorded from Indonesia by Gloerfelt-Tarp & Kailola (1989) as P. somaliensis and P. altipinna from New Caledonia, each based on a single specimen. Larson et al. (2013) recorded the species as P. cf. compressa. Tentatively we retain the name P. somaliensis here pending resolution of the identity of Australian specimens.
