Introduction
The monotypic genus Olisthops Richardson 1850 was treated as a junior synonym of Odax Valenciennes 1840 after 1983, prior to the molecular analysis of Clements et al. 2004 which demonstrated that they are not closely related.

Lennox Head, NSW (28°49'S, 153°36'E) (27°S, 153°E) to Geraldton (28°48'S 114°36'E) and Houtman Abrolhos Islands (28°59'S, 113°58'E), WA, and the Tasmanian coast, possibly north to QLD on the east coast (see Johnson 2010, who considered a probably misidentification); temperate.
