Holotype BMNH 1879.5.14.269, Kai Island (as Ki Islands), Arafura Sea, Indonesia.

Introduction
We retain the species here, although some material has possibly been misidentified. The species was described from just north of Australia and would be expected to be in Australia. Larson et al (2013) suggested that records of Lepidotrigla punctipectoralis from Australia may have been been based on L. spiloptera.
