Species Lagocephalus suezensis Clark & Gohar, 1953

Introduction

This species was previously thought to be restricted to the Red Sea and western Indian Ocean but has recently been recorded from Japan and Australia (Iwatsubo et al. 2009). Iwatsubo et al. (2009) suggest that the species has been widely confused with L. sceleratus throughout the western Pacific, and many Australian records of L. sceleratus are misidentifications of L. suezensis (pers. comm. K. Matsuura).
