Comment: RMNH 6372 3 specimens, USNM 143715 3 specimens and MNHP 552 2 specimens from Indonesia considered possible syntypes, but Sasaki & Kimura (2014) could not determine, which if any were actual syntypes.Subsequent designation references:

Introduction
Atherina brachypterus Bleeker, 1851 was regarded as a posible senior synonym of Hypoatherina temminckii, but also considered a nomen dubium by Sasaki & Kimura (2014). The name is not in current usage.
