Introduction
The species name was apparently originally spelled with an oe, rather than an ae. Most authors have used caeruleopunctatus until very recently. That spelling may qualify as being in prevailing usage under Article 33.3.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. However, recent works (Randall 2005; Andrawartha & Tuma 2007) have begun to use coeruleopunctatus. Almost all museum records are recorded as Epinephelus caeruleopunctatus.
