Speckled Flounder
- Arnoglossus aspilos praeteritus Whitley, G.P. 1950. Some rare Australian fishes. Proceedings of the Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales 1948–49: 32-34 figs 1-5 [32, fig. 1] [derivation is apparently from the Latin praeter = beyond + the adjectival ending itus].

Introduction
Amaoka & Last (2014) showed that the species, which had been considered a subspecies of Arnoglossus aspilos is a distinct species of Engyprospon and that many records of Arnoglossus aspilos were misidentifications of Engyprosopon praeteritum.

Off Cape Peron, Shark Bay, WA (25°30'S 113°30'E) to Emery Point, Darwin, NT (12°45'S 130°30'E) probably more widespread, but many records need confirmation, tropical
Australian Endemic.
