Introduction

Kuiter (2010) placed this species in the genus Hemicoris which he resurrected from synonymy with Coris. He also recognised Hemicoris schroederii (Bleeker 1858) as valid for records of this species from the western Pacific, with C. batuensis restricted to the Indian Ocean. We follow the revision of Randall (1999) until the changes of Kuiter (2010) can be more fully resolved.
