Subtribe Cisseina Majer, 2001

Introduction

This new subtribe contains five genera; the largest of these is Cisseis Gory & Laporte. The last revision of Cisseis and Ethon Gory & Laporte was by Carter (1923). In that work, Hypocisseis Thomson, Neospades Blackburn and Pachycisseis Théry were considered as subgenera of Cisseis. Stanwatkinsius, apparently related to Cisseis, although possessing an ovipositor closer to Meliboeithon Obenberger and bearing at least a superficial resemblance to Astraeus Laporte & Gory, has recently been described by Barker & Bellamy (2001). According to Barket (pers. comm.) there are a number of new synonyms and many new species of Cisseis awaiting designation and description. The synonymy of Cisseis is based on a new checklist of the genus by Barker (2002).
