Rockhampton region, QLD (ca. 23°22'S, 150°31'E), upper Tweed River system, NSW (28°26'S, 153°19'E), and the upper Swan River system, WA (ca. 31°53'S, 115°58'E), possibly also Woodford region north of Brisbane, QLD (ca. 26°57'S, 152°45'E); tropical, temperate, South America, coastal drainages of eastern and southern Brazil and Uruguay

Introduced from South America via aquarium trade.
