Introduction

The generic name is often spelled Cromileptes, particularly in major works on the family. First reviser apparently McCulloch (1929) who selected Chromileptes over Cromileptes.

The genus is tentatively retained here. Genetic sutdies (Ma & Craig 2018) suggested that the species is probably a specialised species of Epinephelus.
