Introduction

The species was considered to be widespread in the Indo-west-central Pacific. Randall (2007) indicated that C. sordidus was confined to the Indian Ocean, with the eastern Indian Ocean and Pacific populations referred to C. spilurus based on work of Howard Choat. We thank Howard Choat for providing information about the distribution of the species.
