Comment: AM B.7769 sometimes listed as syntype, but is from Almorrha, India apparently not from type locality.

Introduction
Randall et al. (1997) suggested that all records of Canthigaster solandri from Australia were based on this species, however, photos from R. Kuiter (1996) suggest both species occur in Australia and further studies are needed of Australian material to determine distribution of the two species in Australia.
