Introduction
The family Chironemidae comprises a small group of fishes known only from Australia, Lord Howe Island, New Zealand, Chile and the Juan Fernandez Islands. One genus and six species are recognised (Meléndez & Dyer 2010). Gomon (2008) illustrated three of the four species known from Australia. Kelpfishes are characterised by having unbranched pectoral rays and, like morwongs, typically are associated with rocky reefs. Maximum length reached is 40 cm.
