Species Solegnathus spinosissimus Günther, 1870

Spiny Pipehorse, Australian Spiny Pipehorse, Banded Pipefish, Spiny Sea Dragon, Spiny Seadragon

Introduction

Kuiter (2009) considered New Zealand records of this species to represent a different species, Solegnathus naso Whitley 1941. However, Stewart (2015) suggested additional information was needed and retained the name S. spinosissimus for the New Zealand species.
