Introduction
The Indian Ocean form was regarded as Aspidontus taeniatus tractus by Smith-Vaniz (1976). We include the record here based on Hastings & Springer (2009) who elevated the subspecies to species, but mentioned that the only Cocos (Keeling) Islands specimen had only a faint bar on the pectoral base, which is normally dark in A. tractus and absent in A. taeniatus.
