Introduction

Acentronura tentaculata had long been applied to this species in Australia. Kuiter (2000) regarded A. tentaculata as a Red Sea endemic, with A. breviperula the correct name for the Australian species and we follow that work here.

Mabuiag Island, Torres Strait (9º57'S, 142º11'E) to Bowen (20º01'S, 148º15'E), QLD, and possibly south to Moreton Bay (27º20'S, 153º18'E)(see Kuiter 2009); tropical, East-Indo West Pacific.
