Type species:
Hippocampus gracilissimus Temminck & Schlegel, 1850 by monotypy.
Introduction
Dawson (1984) treated various subgenera of Acentronura. Subsequently Kuiter (2000) separated Idiotropiscis as a separate genus. Some workers have not followed that separation (Stewart 2015).
