Scattered locations along QLD coast from tributaries of the Barron River, Cairns (16º55'S) to Nerang River, Gold Coast (28º02'S), also recorded from Medowie, NSW (32º44'S), Darwin, NT (130º50'E) and Christmas Island; tropical.

Introduced from Mexico via aquarium trade.
