Introduction
Previously misidentified as Upeneus bensasi which is now considered to be a junior synonym of Upeneus japonicus (Randall et al. 1993) and is restricted to the northwest Pacific (Uiblein & Gledhill 2014). The standard name Japanese Goatfish is not appropriate for this species.
