Species Trypetimorpha aschei Huang & Bourgoin, 1993

Compiler and date details

12 May 2011 - Murray J. Fletcher

Introduction

This species was originally described from New Guinea but a single macropterouis male specimen in ASCU was collected near Katherine in the Northern Territory in 1998 to established its presence in Australia. It is also possible that a record of "Trichoduchus biermani" (= Trypetimorpha biermani (Dammerman)) reported by Lallemand & Synave (1953: 254) from the Northern Territory is of this species. Huang & Bourgoin (1993) demonstrated that T. biermani is limited to the Oriental region.

A comprehensive description was provided by Huang & Bourgoin (1993). It can be differentiated from T. wilsoni by features of the male and female genitalia and probably also by distributional differences.
