Introduction

This tribe has had a chequered taxonomic history with the included species being placed at various times in the Cixiidae, Issidae, Fulgoridae and eventually in the Tropiduchidae. The group was included in a review of the higher classification of the family by Fennah (1982). Only two species of the genus Trypetimorpha Costa, have been recorded in Australia and this genus was reviewed by Huang & Bourgoin (1993).

 

Diagnosis

Frons with median carina distinctly projecting. Apical segment of rostrum broader than long. Tegmen with r-m and m-cu only transverse veins present, or if not, a series of transverse veinlets rectangulately to costa from Sc + R and to posterior margin from Cu1b. Post-tibiae with 2 spines laterally. First valvula of ovipositor with at least 4 teeth dorsally and 5–8 teeth ventrally. Third valvulae devoid of teeth (Fennah 1982).
