- Eviota macrophthalmus Tomiyama, I. 1936. 5. Gobiidae of Japan. Japanese Journal of Zoology 7(1): 37-112 figs 1-44 [47, fig. 6] [derivation is from the Greek makros = large + ophthalmos = eye, transliterated to Latin as macrophthalmus, a masculine noun in apposition].

Holotype ZIUT 30331 (apparently lost M. Hiyashi, in litt.), Hatizyo-zima, Idu-siti-to, Japan.
