Subtribe Tracheina Laporte, 1835

Introduction

Two genera comprise the Trachina: Trachys Fabricius and Habroloma C.G. Thomson. Habroloma has often been considered at the subgenus level under Trachys, but contemporary workers recognize both taxa as valid genera (Cobos 1979). The main features which distinguish these two genera are a more triangular body in Habroloma, while Trachys is generally more elongate-ovoid and the presence of a post-humeral carina in Habroloma, which is lacking in Trachys.

Both genera are exclusively leaf-mining as larvae and are widely distributed in the Old World. The last complete catalogue was by Obenberger (1937). The last revision of the Australian Trachina was by Carter (1928).
